Booth Library Bookend, 2015

Kyle L. Poirier, Booth Library Bookend, 2015
acrylic on canvas, 10 x 10 in.

If you follow my blog, you may have noticed this work is directly inspired by another piece I created back in March for a fundraiser. That particular work was a mixed media piece, inspired by repurposed telephone booths as free libraries. For this painting, I wanted to keep that literary connection, but play with the idea of the booth as an ornament among the old books. Instead of simply a brass or silver sculpture I opted for keeping the brilliant red in contrast with the subdued tones of the rest of the piece.
