Making Music began weeks ago (okay, maybe longer), in hopes of completing it for the exhibition at the Early Music Studio concert. I didn’t get it done, but in the end, I think that worked out for the best.

Sometimes a painting simply needs to sit for a while, until it presents new ideas to experiment with.

I needed time to think about how I wanted to handle the music on the pages. The other concern was how to deal with the brass music stand in the background, which inspired the whole work to begin with. It was getting lost as I worked through the piece.

It wasn’t until Mrs. Peartree suggested I should just go ahead and try to really make it pop, using a bright colour to represent the brass.

So I took her advice, literally, and jumped in with some iridescent gold paint. It was the finishing touch the work needed.
