One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about this project, is when visitors and buyers share their thoughts about a painting, whether viewing it online, or after they see it in person once they have purchased one.
Yesterday, I posted some unfinished shots of this painting, and for fun, threw out the call for title ideas, as I didn’t have any at the time.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received a personal message from one of my frequent visitors. She had a suggestion, and I thought her title idea, and rational behind it, was brilliant.
“I was thinking ‘holding back the tide’ because at this point in the work it looks like her hand is holding the water back from the shore… and in capturing your daughter at this youthful stage you are holding back tide and time (another option for a title?) as well. Is that too deep? no pun intended…”
I was simply exercising the urge to paint this scene that was etched in my head from our adventures at the beach. However, perhaps there is more to it. Perhaps I am trying to hold onto that innocent and curious stage in my little girl’s life right now. Perhaps it’s happening because she is going to turn three in just a few short weeks, and is becoming a big girl so quickly.
Thank you Suzan Wood Young, for following my project and your great title suggestion… this one goes out to you!
