One of the fun things about this project for both visitors who are following my journey, and for myself, is not knowing what I’m going to paint next, or what direction I may begin to take. Well, I took another new direction tonight.
Whispers of Winter was inspired by a recent blog post, of the same title, by Mrs. Peartree. The post chronicles a recent adventure with the kids on the first day of snow this year. One of the photos show my little girl pointing at something to the right, while her big brother is trekking onwards to the red bridge in the distance.
When I saw this photo, I envisioned my daughter pulling an old fashioned toboggan, an essential they soon won’t be leaving the house without for much longer, but on this first day of snow, they were only concerned with suiting up and exploring.
So, a quick sketch began in my head, working from that photo, and then I transfered it to canvas. I wanted to paint it in an illustrative style, creating that nostalgic scene and feeling we may all remember from childhood. I especially remember images like this from Little Golden Books, another recent blog post that I think had some influence on this work as well.
Now, I wonder what else I can do with this image for Christmas this year perhaps?
