My work has recently taken a little detour down a different path as of late—a path to abstraction. I have an opportunity, once again, to display another work in a group show at the Kelowna Art Gallery. This time it is our members’ exhibition, which consists of works by artists from all disciplines and skill levels. You simply need to be a member of the gallery to be eligible to submit.
The exhibition, On the Path to Abstraction, has a theme this year that challenges artists to think about their art in a new way.
With On the Path Too, my goal was to make a departure from what I’ve been creating recently. Keeping with the theme of the members’ exhibition, the abstract approach forced me to experiment more than I have allowed myself to do, so far. I am pleased with the results and the possibilities where my work can go from here, even if I didn’t manage to completely depart from any recognizable imagery. Perhaps I will get there after working through a few more.
On the Path Too, will be part of a new aspect of the exhibition this year, a small section showcasing works by staff from the Kelowna Art Gallery. For many of us, we don’t just work with art, but practice it as well. I invite you to come see the exhibition, and say hello. The exhibition is in our front hall and runs November 12, 2011 to January 15, 2012. Admission is free.
