an update and exclusive VIP offer for you

Hello former Pear Tree followers,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on this old blog, and a lot has changed since then! No, The Pear Tree blog is not being revived. But because you followed it for a time, I really wanted to share an update with you on what’s happening for me now.

Early this year I launched a new business. It’s called Not Your Every Day, and it will (very soon, I am told by my web designer) be an online shop featuring local, handmade lifestyle products from around the Okanagan. I’m just dying to send you straight over, but since it’s not actually finished yet, there’s not much to look at! But if you think this is something that might interest you, either as a customer or as a maker of beautiful products, you can keep up to date on what’s happening by following on Instagram ( or on Facebook (, or right here on, until the new site is finished. A newsletter is also in the works.

In the meantime, we’re kicking things off with a workshop series we’re calling Mind Your Own {Small} Business. Workshops are slated for once a month, with the first one scheduled 8 April at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna. Topics will range from writing press releases to branding, marketing and even designing your own website! The goal of the series is to give micro businesses – we’re talking table top start-ups, hobbiests who want to turn their passion into an income, or anyone with an idea who needs some help getting a foothold in business – to grow their skills to be a self-contained, attractive and profitable business.

The first in the series is called Photographing Products Like a Pro. We’ve invited local pro photographer Jessica Schlamp of Jessica and Andy Studios to present on how to style products in the most flattering way for print, website and social media use, how to work with available light indoors or in a home office, and how to use some of your SLR camera’s manual features to enhance your photography and produce reliable results.

In addition to a live demo of a product shoot, Jessica will work with products provided by participants to advise on how best to style a shoot for their individual needs. There will also be a display of lenses, cameras and studio/lighting equipment and a wrap-up Q&A session. A take-home flyer will be provided to allow you to review the things covered in the workshop at your leisure, and a videographer will also be on site to film the workshop live. A digital download of the course will be made available for purchase for anyone who wants to rewatch it.

Tickets for this empowering learning event are limited and go on sale this Sunday, 11 March. For the first 15 days we’re offering a $15 early bird saving. From 11-26 March tickets are just $60. After that, whatever is left from our limited stash will go up to $75 each.

There’s never been a better time to start your own business. But the more that people realize this, the stiffer the competition becomes. That’s why it’s so important to grow the skills that will take your product up several notches and help it to stand out as a unique, quality piece of merchandise. Not Your Every Day and Mind Your Own {Small} Business wants to help you get there!

I’ll be posting a reminder, here on the blog Sunday morning, when tickets become available. Don’t miss this unique chance to start filling your toolbox for the journey towards your own, independent business. Make 2018 the year!

Now enough about me… I’d love to hear how you’re doing after all this time. Please do comment below with your own little update!
