Posterity and All That

Okay, I’m going to admit it: I’m one of those mums who would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. I don’t like being confronted with my personal body issues, frozen and preserved for posterity (linking up with What I Wore Wednesdays is one way I’m confronting my neurosis and just “doing it”). But I do know that, for my family – my children, especially, but also my husband and other loved ones – me actually being in pictures, at least some of the time, is important.

So when my photographer friend, Glenda Quiring of Expressions by Glenda, asked if she could include me in a few shots during a photo shoot with Thing 1 and Thing 2, I hesitated… but then caved.

It was a super fun morning, and I loved seeing the memories we made captured through someone else’s eyes.

Most of the shots were of the kids, to use in a calendar Glenda is putting together for 2014, as a fundraiser that will help children at an orphanage in Tanzania, where one of her daughters worked for a while. Things 1 and 2 are slated to represent “June.”

Why, yes, I will  updated you when the calendars come out!

It was such a carefree morning, poking around Druitt’s Pond (I think it’s called), on the way to Black Mountain. It made me think I could really get into an outdoorsy, country sort of life.

Oliver loved turtle hunting. And climbing that awesome, gnarley willow.

Amélie preferred running through the wind.

Only one regret: We were down one family member, who had to, ahem, work. So I’m thinking we’ll have to plan one more photo shoot for one of these days, with Mr. Pear Tree in tow. For posterity.

  1. Those pictures are so beautiful Lori-Anne. Your littles will treasure them when they are older. I’m usually the one behind the camera (and with body image issues) as well so there aren’t many pictures of me with Evie when she was little and I do regret that.
