“For there is no friend like a sister/In calm and stormy weather;/To cheer one on the tedious way,/ To fetch one if one goes astray,/To lift one if one totters down,/To strengthen whilst one stands.
-Christina Rosetti, Goblin Market
I’ve had a hankering, for some time, now, to do a post celebrating sisters. The best friend and arch nemesis, one time tattle-tale but, most likely, a cherished confidant in adulthood.
And so I’m calling on you – those of you with sisters – to be part of this celebration.
Send us your favourite photo of you and your sister or sisters, and we’ll include it in an upcoming post dedicated to sisters and what makes them special. They can be new or old photos, portraits or candid shots – old sisters, young sisters, baby sisters and whole families of sisters. To sweeten the pot, one entry will win an hour-long sister’s photo shoot with me, and a disk full of images.
Email your pics and a short description to lori(dot)anne(at)thepeartree(dot)ca by Sunday, 21 August to be part of the celebration. Unfortunately, the winner will have to be local to the Okanagan, or willing to travel here, so make sure to mention where you’re from. But of course you don’t have to live here to be part of the line-up!
Oh, and that picture above? Me and my little sister, Kelly, many, many years ago!
