The Virtual Pin Board

I’ve found a new vice. An online one. I know, just what I needed – another distraction to suck me into the vortex that is the internet.

And what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t share this new consumer-of-time with you?

Last winter I joined Pinterest. I had been seeing references to it on many of my favourite blogs for some time, and finally caved and signed myself up.

If you haven’t encountered it yet, Pinterest is a visual file-sharing site that has photographs of everything you can imagine on the internet. If you see it somewhere and you like it then you “pin” it and it becomes part of the site, to be “re-pinned” by others who see and adore it.

In addition to an enthralling visual feast, you can find awesome ideas to try yourself, including fashion looks, crafts or photographs you’d like to emulate. Or places you’d like to go some day, like the gorgeous, abandon New York subway, above.

The site calls itself “a virtual pinboard.” Collect inspiration, while away your time dreaming or just share your style preferences with your followers.

For example, I love how this gift was wrapped, and pinned the photo so that I can remember to try something similar myself, one of these days.

I will never make a cake like one of these (are you kidding me??) but aren’t they amazing?

I wish I had taken this photo. Isn’t it adorable? I love when photographers can take an old idea (baby in a basket) and make it new (adding a bike) by using their creative genius, or just the interests of the subject – or in this case, possibly the subject’s parent!

I love the colour combination of this set-up, and would like something similar – if only I had a corner of my house that would accommodate it! I’ll save the idea for another house, another time.

I pinned this one because I love dandelions. I know. Spare me the lecture. But whatever your opinion, isn’t this just a gorgeous still life?

I want to treat myself to this fanciful little necklace someday. I would never have come across it if it wasn’t for my new BFF, Pinterest.

Are you already on Pinterest? Look me up. I’m mrspeartree. If you follow me, I’ll follow you back. I can’t wait to see your boards!

  • I finally joined the Pinterest bandwagon last week (I’m hookedonhouses) and it turned out to be so much fun that once I start, I can’t tear myself away from it. Now I have to be careful not to stop by in the middle of the day or I find I don’t get any work done. Just found you on it and am following your boards! :)

  • I’ve heard of this, I’ll have to check it out. Lovely photos. And I like the one of you too! And the new layout. Cheers :)
